This is one tool that can steer clients toward higher wages
By Paul Sears, CareerForce Minnesota
“Minnesota continues to experience one of the worst economic disparities in the nation,†DEED Commissioner Steve Groves recently stated.
What can we as career counselors offer that can help people achieve a livable wage?
Career counselors acquaint clients with several measures of a field’s desirability: client interest level, personal values, physical requirements, needed skills, and a host more. But an obvious means to achieve greater income is the adage, “Follow the money!â€
There is simply more wealth sloshing around in those industries better economically endowed. Other considerations aside, the reality is, certain industries generate more revenue. Some of that money spills in the direction of employees ─ albeit to varying degrees, depending on one’s standing on the organizational totem pole.
The following is a list of fields one could call “Grey Suit Industries.†The term reflects not only their business-like culture but also the affluence these industries tend to generate. Whether you relish these particular fields or not, they often are where the money is.
This list of “Grey Suit Industries†was derived from websites of professional staffing agencies.
