Career Education for Students Building a Career Readiness Framework: A Big Idea from a Small Career Office

June 24, 2020 @ 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Our guest speaker, Bill Baldus is the Career Center Director for Metropolitan State University. Inspired by their University of Minnesota colleagues, Bill has led the effort to create a Career Readiness Initiative at Metropolitan State to imagine how they could more effectively deliver the career education students need to develop professional competencies that will set them on a path to meaningful careers paying family-sustaining wages.

Bill will describe both their struggles and successes in this multi-year effort to bring about a University culture change. He will spark conversation about redefining career development on a college campus and the unique differences in how to make progress with limited resources.

About Our Speaker

Bill joined Metropolitan State University in March 2006. As the Career Center Director, he oversees a team effort to build a college-to-career community that educates students to develop the professional competencies that will set them on a path to meaningful work using lifelong career management skills. With over 20 years working in higher education and corporate environments, Bill brings a variety of perspectives to students and alumni. Bill is a past president of the Minnesota College and Universities Career Services Association (MCUCSA), a former board member of the Minnesota Career Development Association, and former co-chair of MCUSCA Diversity and Inclusion committee.
